The world decides: Who should win the 2024 United States election?

News / Davina Montgomery / October 4, 2024

This has been a fun project to work on!

Ever wanted to have your say on who should lead the world’s most powerful nation? Now’s your chance.

Deakin University researchers have today launched an online poll to find out who the world’s citizens would vote to be the next president of the United States.

Traditionally, voter sentiment polls for US elections have only surveyed Americans, but the You Say We Say poll is open to participants from across the globe.

You will be asked:

  • who you think will be elected to be the 47th US president, out of Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democrat candidate Kamala Harris

  • how important each candidate’s perceived character and policy stance is to your decision

  • the policy issues that matter to you

  • what your country of residence is.

The project is being co-led by Associate Professor Zim Nwokora of Deakin’s Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation and Dr Russell Kennedy of Deakin’s School of Communication and Creative Arts. Computer scientists and software engineers at Deakin’s Applied AI Institute are providing platform development and data analysis support.

Don’t forget to VOTE!

Keep coming back to the poll site and socials for updated results in the lead up to 5 November EST.

Note: The You Say We Say poll is conducted for research purposes. Votes will not be recognised or recorded as part of the 2024 US presidential election. Country details of participants will be published but other identifying factors will remain anonymous.
