Deakin University’s Applied AI Institute is proud to announce the appointment of lauded Silicon Valley entrepreneur and Chairman of the Quad Investors Network, Karl Mehta, as an Adjunct Professor.
Prof Mehta brings an extraordinary level of expertise and experience, including:
- 30 years as a serial entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, founding, building, and funding high-tech companies, including founder/ CEO of 3 venture-backed companies built at scale with successful large exits and leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies.
- Awarded Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young for Silicon Valley (Bay Area), and Tech pioneer by the World Economic Forum.
- Former Venture Partner at Menlo Ventures and currently Chairman of Mehta Trust and Chairman of the Quad Investors Network.
- Served as a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow under President Obama.
- Author of 2 books, “AI for DPI” (foreword by the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull) and “Financial Inclusion at the Bottom of the Pyramid” (foreword by Prof Jeffrey Sachs).

He speaks of digital skills being the currency of the 21st century and the pressing need to close the digital skills gap. Words he has put into action by establishing a global volunteer network of tech professionals to share their time and talent to advance digital skills in India, and the founding of EdCast, an AI-powered Knowledge Cloud platform for learning.
The current and founding Chairman of the Quad Investor Network, he represents cross-border technology investment and a focus on the foundations of critical and emerging technologies, including data quality.
Prof Rajesh Vasa, Head of Translational Research and Development at the Applied AI Institute, said he was delighted Prof Mehta will be sharing his time and talent with the team.
