$10 Million AI CoLab Announced
Scale Facilitation® gives $10m to Deakin University’s Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A²I²)
Scale Facilitation® has committed $10 million to establish a collaborative artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) CoLab at A²I² and collaborate with the institute in developing next generation AI technologies.
Through a $10 million commitment, distributed over five years, researchers at the Scale Facilitation® CoLab at A²I² will collaborate with A²I² in translation projects with particular focus on cutting edge AI and ML theory and the development of novel translatory solutions.
The announcement was made during the Geelong Manufacturing Council’s (GMC) 25th Anniversary Celebration and Distinguished Service to Manufacturing Awards, held on March 2nd, 2023.

Deakin’s A²I² was selected for the Scale Facilitation® CoLab commitment because it engages in cutting edge research in and translation of AI and ML and contributes to the development of Australia’s unique and sovereign capability in fundamental and translatory AI.
“Deakin’s A²I² carries out outstanding, visionary research. Collaborating with top R&D teams, like A²I², is part of our Scale Facilitation® DNA and our commitment to fostering innovation,” said Scale Facilitation® CEO and Founder, David A. Collard.
“We are delighted for this CoLab to be established as we will be able to pursue and solve deep AI problems in both theory and practice,” said A²I² Co-Director, Professor Svetha Venkatesh.
